He was up against a good left back and noble wasn't the quickest player to work with.

I hope him and Cresswell are not one season wonders. Should have bought our own RB in, cheaper option again c/o "The Daves".

I dislike plain criticism, anyone can do that. If you had the option what would you have done? Realistically who would you have got for this RB who we could call our own?

Agree with a lot of that however I don't agree with those pinning this on BFS however much I dislike him.

Our football under BFS at the beginning of last season was electric with pace and movement and some great finishing.
We do have players who can play but we play with fear of losing the ball or being the one who makes the mistake. We have done for more than half a season. I don't think we need to ditch half the squad to remedy it and frankly Bilics teams have never played fast flowing attacking football so not really sure what people are expecting.
Certainly need some pace, confidence and tempo or we won't break down the majority of teams in this league and will continue to be reliant on set plays to nick a goal.

Re: Jenkinson yesterday
We certainly seemed to follow the pattern of last season with lots of passing in the first 2 thirds of the pitch and especially at the back. Side to side passing aimed at trying to stretch the opposition and open up pockets of space but the pace of the passing and lack of movement and lack of width ahead of the full backs made it easier for Leicester to sit deep with 9 behind the ball. They were helped on the day by the ref but we struggled to get in behind them and stretch them. The evidence was when we resorted to long diagonal crosses to play the percentages ironically. Bilic is trying to change things but like Zola found, you need the technique of control and passing across the team to make it work effectively. We are a team built by BFS to play the attrition style and direct where the ball is launched long and passing in the middle is not as important and where movement is not that important either. The transition will take time based on the level of investment and turnover of players we are seeing.

Do not expect too much this season.

Re: Jenkinson yesterday
i've never been that critical of centre backs that don't bring the ball out, not that many in the game that you see doing it with a great deal of confidence.

Re: Jenkinson yesterday
the main thing we had to do yesterday was shut down mahrez and look out for the long ball to vardy. we did neither and paid for it

Re: Jenkinson yesterday
Not convinced by that, they didn't overload us on either flank, our full backs lost their battles against their wide players yesterday.

Re: Jenkinson yesterday
Baggins if every pass was to the other ch or to the rb or backwards its a waste of fucking time.
No one bothered putting pressure on him cos they knew he would never look for a pass even into midfield.

As proof of your statement about players in WCs, I looked at the stats for the 1966/67 season.
Moore,Hurst and Peters(strange how those names always trip off the tongue in that order-poor old Martin) had only 3 weeks off between winning the 1966 WC and starting the new season. West Ham proceeded to lose the opening three games and finished 16th in the table.

Re: Jenkinson yesterday
our fullbacks were a big plus last season , this is an area we have to get right , if it means shaking Jenkinson up by playing Tomkins or even moving Ogbanna to left back they both need to be livened up that they are not an automatic shoe in .

Re: Jenkinson yesterday
Fullbacks have no protection whatsoever in Bilic's current system. Leicester got in behind us 6 times in the first 30 mins and that wasn't because of poor play from our left-back or right-back it's because Leicester knew how we where going to play and utilised the space left when those 2 where high up the pitch. It's not rocket science so let's hope Slav figures it out.

We should have replaced him.

Baggins 12:28 Sun Aug 16
Re: Jenkinson yesterday
Alf - While both full backs had below average games, they didnt get much support offensively or defensively. I assume because Zarate and Payet are told to wander.

Something for the manager to resolve, possibly.

Just an opinion. But a professional athlete needs a down time and Jenkinson's was short / almost non-existent.

You do not agree. You may be right but players playing in WCs and Summer tournaments often struggle at the start or during the next season. Hopefully Jenkinson is not going to be in that category. Raneri doubled up on Jenkinson and Cresswell as he knew Bilic favours the wing back approach and Jenks stopped trying to go past his man as he kept getting dispossesed.

Anyway, lets hope Jenkinson can get some more support down the flank. Our many No 10s tend to drift inside.

He should be fit as a fiddle at the start of the season. Especially how they're mollycoddled nowadays.

Re: Jenkinson yesterday
Ernie - Reid? Eh?

He is a centre half. His job is to take it from the keeper and give it simple, which he did. Same with Ogbonna.
